Sara Bareilles has finally responded to the backlash against fellow artist Katy Perry.

Bareilles fans were outraged when Perry's new hit Roar was released, claiming the 28-year-old popstar ripped off the melody from Bareilles song Brave.

But now, the 33-year-old singer is responding back and defending her friend.

"I don't feel like anything was taken from me artistically," Bareilles said in an interview with The Huffington Post. "I wasn't the one having any problems with it. I've known Katy a long time. We are friends and she and I spoke about it. I look at it as two female artists who are releasing a message of empowerment."

According to E! News, Perry's song is currently at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while Bareilles' peaked at No. 31 after the comparisons between the two started happening.

"I was like, 'You guys want to go get (mad) about something and buy my music, that's great," she said.

Bareilles did admit frustration with her fans over the drama though.

"To be totally honest, I was sort of disappointed in how aggressive fans were being about it," she said. "I don't promote drama in my life and competition and stuff like that."

Brave was co-written with fun. Guitarist Jack Antonoff and was dedicated to a friend who was struggling with coming out. It is the third single off the singer's third album, The Blessed Unrest, which was released in July.

Bareilles is currently wrapping up a tour with OneRepublic, and will launch a solo tour Oct. 6 in Boston.
