Hugh Jackman Gives Marriage Advice, 4 Words to Happiness [EXCLUSIVE]
Hugh Jackman's marriage is a true testament to the claim that celebrity couples can in fact remain married in the limelight, and he got to talking with Enstars about his wife, children and even his own upbringing.
The X-Men: Days of Future Past star married Deborra-Lee Furness in 1996 and together they have two children: Ava Eliot and Oscar Maximilian. The couple used their celebrity status for a good cause and were among the star-studded guest list at a charity fundraiser in New York City on Sept. 17. They attended the 14th New Yorkers for Children event, which helps disadvantaged youth in foster care. They helped raise awareness and funds for the cause, which was also attended by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Speaking of his own childhood at the event, Jackman said when he was young he wanted to be a chef on a plane, explaining, "cuz I thought there was one. I wanted to travel and I like food."
The actor has been busy as of late with the 2014 X-Men film and also promoting his recently released film Prisoners. He starred in three films this year alone and will play American showman P.T. Barnum, founder of the circus known as Ringling Bros., in The Greatest Showman on Earth.
Though he admitted to reading more scripts than books recently because of all his projects, Jackman does take time out of his schedule to read the Percy Jackson books with his children.
"Actually that's the last book I read," he said. "I swear to God, I read them with my kids so I know what they're into and we chat. So I've read the first three of the Percy Jackson trilogy."
Furness chimed in and talked about her own dreams growing up ("I wanted to be a lawyer") and also encouraged her husband to run for mayor of New York when he was asked whom he would be voting for in the upcoming election. The Aussie actor cannot vote himself and when Furness said "you should run darling, I think you have a shot," he replied, "you think? I doubt it."
With 17 years of marriage under his belt, Jackman felt confident enough to relay some marriage advice - though it was relatively simple.
"Happy wife, happy life," he said.
Watch Prisoners, starring Jackman and Jake Gyllenhaal, in theaters now. The action film X-Men: Days of Future Past comes out May 23, 2014.
