"These are all very powerful women that I really respect and look up to," Perry told Carson Daly on 97.1 AMP on Monday morning. "I wanted them to come together to promote this supportive message and have a fantastic night full of great music. There's so many great acts in this lineup. And I get to play a lot of songs off the record that will have come out the night before."

The We Can Survive concert comes a day after the release of Perry's fourth studio album, Prism, on Oct. 22. The album's lead single Roar went to No. 1 on Billboard.

"It wasn't my first thought for the first single," Perry told the radio station. "But then that switched after I kind of finished writing all of my songs and realized how I wanted to roll the record out and it just felt like the first right message to come back with. I mean, of course it felt great to come 'roaring' back, no pun intended."

The singer also explained what type of message she aimed for with the upbeat single.

"It definitely got a very empowerment, find your inner strength feeling to it," she said. "That's what a lot of people have been coming back to me and saying."
