Tonight, the triumphant Blake Shelton made his return to The Voice.

The country singer has served as a coach for NBC singing competition during the last four seasons, leading his team to victory in three separate seasons.

As The Voice opened its fifth season earlier this evening, Shelton was confident that the program would run smoothly, and enjoyably, yet again. Now that Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green have once again paired up with Shelton and Maroon 5's Adam Levine to reform the original judges panel, competition between the teams is expected to be fiercer than ever.

"I think it's going to create probably the most competitive season that we've seen on The Voice so far because the four of us - it really brings back those original rivalries that we had in the beginning," the Boys 'Round Here singer said, according to Taste of Country. "It's a reminder of how lucky we were to accidentally somehow end up with four people who actually became instant friends and who argue and bicker like friends do, like family do, and we love like family."

If Shelton were to choose the upcoming champion for his team once again, it would bring his banner year to a nice conclusion. While the 37-year-old managed to guide Danielle Bradbury to victory back in June, Shelton also released Based on a True Story which quickly climbed the country charts while sales for his earlier album, Red River Blue, went on the surpass the 1 million mark.

Catch the singer on The Voice on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET.
