Forbes Highest Paid Hip-Hop Artists for 2013: Nicki Minaj, Sean "P Diddy" Combs, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre Top List (PHOTOS)
Forbes released the Highest Paid Hip-Hop Artists of 2013 list on Tuesday and Sean P. Diddy Combs topped the list.
Combs landed at no. 1 three years after he disagreed with a placement in a previous year.
"[Screw] the Forbes list," he rapped on a Rick Ross song three years ago. "Let's tell the truth: I ate more."
Combs is a music and fashion mogul who topped "Forbes' Five Wealthiest Artists of 2012" list last year. His reported net worth at the time was $550 million. The Bad Boy Records founder released his sixth studio album, Last Train To Paris in 2010. He founded the Sean John clothing line in 1998 and purchased the Enyce clothing line for $20 million from Liz Claiborne in 2008. The father of six also earns double-digit millions from his share in the Ciroc vodka brand. He stands to earn more next year when he launches his own cable network called Revolt through a deal with Comcast this fall.
Sean "Jay-Z" Carter landed at no. 2 thanks to earning from his Legends of The Summer Tour with Justin Timberlake among other things. His stake in Armand de Brignac champagne, D'Ussé cognac and Roc Nation label/management firm which represents a myriad of artists asnd athlete. His latest album Magna Carta ... Holy Grail went platinum before its July launch thanks to a $5 million investment from Samsung.
Cash Money Records/Young Money Records founder Birdman landed at no. 5 thanks to having signed three other artists on this list-- Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and Drake. Birdman's empire also also has investments in a vodka, clothing line and has a book publishing company.
Minaj landed at no. t4 thanks to a very lucrative American Idol judge gig, Pepsi, her own clothing line that was just released in Kmart stores, stakes in Myx Fusions Moscato and an endorsement with Beats by Dre speakers called the Pill.
Forbes created the Cash Kings list based on pre-tax earnings for hip-hop or rap and rap artists. The magazine looks at the artists' "touring, record sales, publishing, merchandise sales, endorsements and other ventures" from June 2012 to June 2013. The data is compiled from Pollstar, the Recording Industry Association of America and Nielsen SoundScan, and interviews with numerous managers, lawyers, record executives and some of the artists, according to the report.
All twenty rappers listed earned a combined $343 million according to the report.
