Madonna debuted her short film, Secret Project Revolution, at the Gagosian Gallery in New York City on Sept. 24.

Lindsay Lohan, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Zachary Quinto, Zac Posen, and Lee Daniels also came out to show their support for the project at the premiere.

The 17-minute film was made in support of Art for Freedom, "an online global initiative to further freedom of expression to respond, address and pretext persecution around the world."

Madonna collaborated with VICE Media to create the project, which protests the prison industrial complex. The film is being distributed by BitTorrent, fans can download the film and free bonus content through BitTorrent.

In the black and white film, Madonna plays an artist who is locked-up in prison. The scenes are complemented with a voice-over narrative by the singer.

"I looked into the eyes of people and I saw helplessness, I saw hopelessness, I saw humans searching for a way out. Another new and exciting distraction, and excuse to do nothing," she says in the film, while watching other prisoners being tormented by oppressors in the cell opposite from her.

The 55-year-old singer-songwriter covered Elliot Smith's Between the Bars at the premiere. The song was preluded with a short act, showing the artist being shackled in chains being dragged to the stage and harassed by two cops. She sang the song kneeling down, with her hands bound behind her back on the stage.
