Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" Music Video is a Copycat: Critics Say [VIDEOS]
Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" music video is too similar to N' Sync's 2002 "Girlfriend" music video, critics say.
Critics say the concept is the same. Both videos feature a parking lot full of sports cars and ladies wearing little clothes. In "Boyfriend," Bieber puts his arms around a Selena Gomez look alike, in "Girlfriend" Justin Timberlake does the same with a sexy girl.
"Not only does the track’s title and subject bear a striking resemblance to their [N Sync] 2002 hit “Girlfriend,” but the videos’ subject matter is nearly identical," criticized the Hollywood Reporter.
The website Idolator also noted the similarity between the videos.
"We’d be amiss to ignore the fact that this concept for 'Boyfriend' strikes a significant similarity to *NSYNC‘s 'Girlfriend' video," the site wrote.
