Floyd Mayweather Married? Confirmed Engagement, Wedding Still On With Girlfriend Shantel Jackson On Howard Stern (VIDEO)
Floyd Mayweather shocked his fans on Thursday when he confirmed that his still set to wed Shantel Jackson.
The undefeated boxer who was named by Forbes as the Highest Paid Athlete in the World, confirmed his engagement during an interview on Howard Stern Show on Thursday.
Stern began the interview by addressing the boxing champion's personal life. He started off by telling Mayweather that he heard he was engaged but had ended it.
"No, no, no. I mean that's just the media," Mayweather told the radio personality of the breakup reports. "Yeah, we still engaged. She's my better half. Miss Jackson. She's cool, she's just my better half."
When Stern asked about their plans to get married, Mayweather said it isn't a high priority right now.
"We're not really focused on marriage right now. I'm going to focus on taking her career to that next level," he explained. "It's about me being an asset, helping my better half."
Mayweather addressed the rumor that Miley Cyrus will accompany him to the ring when he fights again in May.
"Yeah, she'll be twerking," he said. "She's like me, she's an entertainer. She's cool."
Stern asked Mayweather if he really believes Cyrus will participate. "I believe she'll do it... she probably will," he said.
Stern said it would be "good publicity for her."
Mayweather's engagement to Jackson was a surprise because they were rumored to have severed ties in May. The boxer reportedly cancelled their wedding plans because she was reportedly caught cheating with Atlanta club promoter Omar Slim. The boxer felt Jackson had used him for his jet plane and other luxuries, according to blogger Terez Owens.
There were multiple reports earlier this month that Mayweather is currently dating a young woman from Austin, Texas, who calls herself in social media Queen Princess Love, LarryBrownSports reported on Aug. 30. Their relationship was purported to be more than professional after he uploaded an Instagram photo collage featuring her on Aug. 26.
Princess suggested that she and Mayweather were an item a week later. She posted several photos of expensive gifts he gave her on Instagram, including a Rolex watch with diamonds and a diamond cuff bracelet.
She and Jackson, however, both attended Mayweather's Las Vegas bout with Canelo in Las Vegas on Sept.14. Mayweather's ex-girlfriend, Josie Harris, told TMZ the only reason Jackson showed up for the fight is because Mayweather earned a hefty sum for his victory.
"She is a total gold digger," Harris said of Jackson. "She conveniently came back around 2 days before Floyd got his $41.5 million check."
There was speculation after the fight that Mayweather and Jackson were already married. The day after Mayweather shared a photo of his $41.5 million paycheck, a court document surfaced online proving that Shantel Jackson legally added Mayweather to her last name in 2011.
The change was made in a Florida courtroom on June 29, 2011. The petition reads: "SHANTEL CHRISTINA JACKSON...is hereby changed to SHANTEL CHRISTINE JACKSON MAYWEATHER."
