Miley Cyrus' 'The Movement' MTV Documentary Explores Her Image, Music & 'Taking Over the World' [VIDEO]
In Miley Cyrus: The Movement, an hour-long MTV documentary premiering on Wednesday night, viewers will get a look into the pop star's world as she takes bold steps to further her music career.
Her efforts making Bangerz are captured in full when she returned to the music scene following the disappointing sales from 2010's Can't Be Tamed. Her new album , with its lead single We Can't Stop, has a hip-hop-centric feel to it and its collaborators mirror that vibe. Cyrus, 20, stresses her new image in the documentary and describes it as more than just a promotional front she has on.
"To me, a movement is bigger than just a record," she said in the film. "For me, a movement represents something like... taking over the world."
The documentary includes Cyrus discussing her controversial performance at the 2013 Video Music Awards, her days as a Disney star, encouraging words Pharrell Williams gave her when she needed her spirits uplifted and discussions about the end of Cyrus' film career.
"I want to make music for the rest of my life," she said.
The first portion of the documentary focuses on the creation of We Can't Stop as the first single from Bangerz, according to Billboard. The documentary features interviews with Cyrus' mother, Tish Cyrus, but her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and ex-fiance Liam Hemsworth are absent from the project. The film focuses stricly on Miley's career and her father was simply not available during filming earlier in 2013, according to executive producer Dave Sirulnick.
The one-hour documentary allows "unprecedented access into [Miley's] extraordinary life as she rises to the challenge of presenting a new and sometimes controversial persona to the public;" as she "attempts to shed her previous image," according to MTV's official synopsis. "Whether in the studio, at a performance, or on the set of her latest music video, Miley exudes the confidence of a creative young woman in a period of radical self-discovery who still inspires legions of admirers while confronting her critics. Ultimately, the film is an intimate portrait that captures Miley's exuberantand spirited life, her evolving identity, and her exciting transformation into amusic icon."
Miley: The Movement premieres Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 10/9 p.m. Central on MTV.
