'Age of Ultron' James Spader Prepped For 'Avengers' Ultron Costume, Hopes for 'Smooth Transition' From 'Blacklist' to Marvel
James Spader may be currently turning heads as Raymond "Red" Reddington in NBC's The Blacklist, but Marvel fans may be more familiar with his next upcoming role - Ultron.
Cast as the big bad in 2015's The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Spader is already busy with preparations for the Phase Two capstone film. Although actual filming in London will not begin until early next year, director Joss Whedon and Co. are in the midst of preparing Ultron's constume.
"I have spoken to Joss Whedon about it," Spader said of his fast approaching role as the comic book villain, according to the Inquisitor. "And yes, actually, just this weekend I went in for them to take very extensive photographs, head scans, body scans, and all kinds of things in preparation for figuring out how the hell I'm gonna fit in this Ultron character!"
However, the former Boston Legal actor may run into a few timing issues. If The Blacklist, which premiered with over 12 million viewers, is picked up for a full season, than Spader may be cutting it a little close in getting to the Avengers.
"I'm hoping that it's going to be a fairly smooth transition, but I don't know," Spader said, according to TV Line. "We'll wait and see how long The Blacklist plays. If it plays a full season, then I'm sure I will be packing my bags in the last few days of our production on The Blacklist in preparation to get over to London and start shooting The Avengers."
The Blacklist airs Mondays at 10 p.m. ET on NBC. Marvel's The Avengers: Age of Ultron is due out during the summer of 2015.
