Amanda Bynes' Rehab Entry into Malibu Treatment Center, Leaves UCLA Hospital
Retired actress Amanda Bynes moved from UCLA Medical Center's psychiatric ward to a rehabilitation center in Malibu to deal with her mental health issues, her parents released a statement via their lawyer confirming.
The 27-year-old moved to Malibu's The Canyon about three weeks ago. The facility has treated other celebrities and specializes in substance abuse treatment, according to amNewYork. Her parents, Rich and Lynn Bynes, through their lawyer told the gossip website the move was on the advice of doctors at UCLA, and that she is making "great strides towards recovery." They clarified that she is not receiving treatment for substance abuse.
"She is getting specialized psych care, one-on-one treatment, not drug rehab."
"Amanda was stuck with people in much worse condition than her. She was scared, afraid and did not leave her immediate room area. She is getting specialized psych care, one on one treatment, not drug rehab," a source said.
The former Nickelodeon star was involuntarily committed to a psychiatric hospital in late July after she was arrested for setting fire to the driveway of a home in Thousand Oaks, Calif., close to where her parents live. Days later, Amanda's parents sought conservatorship over their daughter. A judge granted Amanda's mother temporary conservatorship on Aug. 9, but it was in effect only until Sept. 30.
Bynes was arrested in May for allegedly throwing a marijuana bong from a window of her 36th-floor Manhattan apartment. In 2012, she was charged in Los Angeles with driving on a suspended license and before that she was charged with driving under the influence and misdemeanor hit-and-run.
