Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Miguel Cotto Box Megafight on HBO at 9 p.m. Today
The Floyd Mayweather Jr. mega fight against Miguel Cotto will be broadcast on HBO at 9 p.m. today.
Boxing fans have high expectations for the fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, following reports that Mayweather, dubbed "Money" has been guaranteed a record $32 million for the fight.
The guarantee is the largest for one fight in boxing history since Mike Tyson was guaranteed $30 million for the heavyweight title fight in 1997 where he infamously bit Evander Holyfield's ear.
Cotto, the WBA super welterweight champion, is guaranteed $8 million, the highest purse in his career.
Mayweather, often called the “pound-for-pound king,” is the favorite. He has won all 42 of his fights and has become the biggest pay-per-view attraction in boxing, according to the Associated Press.
"Nobody is invincible in life. I know that because I pass through this point in my life," Cotto said. "I'm ready for anything Floyd brings me. The question is, is Floyd ready for anything Miguel can bring to him?"
As for Mayweather, he is very confident about his chance of winning. At the weigh in Friday, he reportedly told Cotto:
"When you face Floyd Mayweather, you face the best," the L.A. Times reports.
The pay-per view is expected to sell 1 million subscriptions, ESPN said.
