Anthony Mackie, who is playing the Falcon in the highly anticipated Captain America: The Winter Soldier, said that the film "looks amazing" in a recent interview.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Mackie said that he had seen footage of what had been shot so far for the superhero sequel and was impressed by it.

It looks amazing," he said. "It's so much bigger than everyone thought it would be, and we're kicking a lot of a--. It's a lot of fun to be a part of, especially with Samuel L. Jackson, who's been my mentor for so many years."

Mackie revealed that his Falcon character - who is able to fly and telepathically speak to birds - will be a military type of character rather than a character that wears spandex.

"My gear looks dope and I get to kick a lot of a--," Mackie continued. "Ever since I got in good shape, though, I'm all about spandex." The actor went on an 11,000 calorie per day diet in addition to working out twice a day to prepare for the role.

Mackie added that he was not concerned about bloggers and comic book lovers that think he "might be a miscast or whatever." He said that he intentionally avoids fan blogs and sites for that reason.

Mackie is a part of an all-star cast that includes Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow and Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, a senior leader at S.H.I.E.L.D.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds the titular character facing off against brainwashed assassin James "Bucky" Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), his former best friend. Captain America must enlist in the help of the Falcon and Black Widow in order to take down his friend-turned-enemy.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is scheduled for release on Apr. 4, 2014.
