'Gravity' Movie Review: Trailer of Sandra Bullock & George Clooney 'Out of This World' & 'Best Space Movie Since 2001' [VIDEO]
Gravity, starring Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, is now in theaters and is already dubbed as "one of the best films of the year" and the "best space movie since 2001."
Bullock (Ryan Stone) and Clooney (Matt Kowalski) are the only two actors who appear in the film about a medical engineer and astronaut fighting for their lives after an accident leaves them trapped in space.
According to the Los .Angeles Times, the movie is "out of this world" from the opening scene.
"From its very first image of the shuttle Explorer and some of its astronauts floating close to 400 miles high, with a mammoth planet Earth huge behind them, Gravity revels in its ability to create images that convey the beauty, enormity and terror that being so, so far out there implies," the review stated. "Gravity puts you completely on edge..."
The New York Times also praised the movie and its 3-D enhancements, saying, "The movie itself...n a little more than 90 minutes rewrites the rules of cinema as we have known them."
Vulture's David Edelstein commended the film's opening scene and the 3-D as well.
"I saw Gravity in 3-D, and so should you, sitting as close as you dare to the biggest screen possible... Almost from the start, director Alfonso Cuarón puts you inside the frame and subject," the writer said.
While Oscar-winning actors Bullock and Clooney carry the film, Edelstein said Bullock is the one who stood out and took over.
"George plays it hearty and hail-fellow-well-met-his star power manages to come through even in his astronaut suit. But it's Sandy's movie. She's our most down-to-earth A-list superstar, which makes her the perfect person to connect with us in outer space. "
Still, The Wall Street Journal applauded Clooney's portrayal of Matt: "Mr. Clooney is movie-star charismatic, even in a subordinate role, a feat that he manages almost entirely with his voice, since he's encased in spacewalk wardrobe from start to finish...Matt's wisecracks, his corny stories, his swashbuckling expertise and, ultimately, his gallantry are all canny components of the movie's broad appeal.
