'The Armstrong Lie' Trailer: Lance Armstrong Says He Was "Very Confident" That He "Would Never Be Caught" [VIDEO]
Lance Armstrong says that he was very confident that he would never be caught in the trailer for The Armstrong Lie, which released on Oct. 7.
The documentary, which has been directed by Alex Gibney, follows the story of the onetime champion in 2009, as he attempts a comeback, and then again in 2013 after his doping scandal went public
"I like to win but more than anything else I can't stand the idea of losing because to me that equals death," he says in the clip which features his 2009 interview with Gibney. While Armstrong had been accused of using illegal performance-enhancing drugs, nothing had proven at the time. He was preparing for the Tour De France competition at the time.
In the clip, Gibney suggests that he didn't play ignorant to the drug allegations on Armstrong when he was documenting his comeback in 2009 but admits that he was rooting for him.
"If I win again, they can't say that, they can not," a very cocky Armstrong speaks to the camera in a very aggressive tone. The story moves on when the allegations are proven to be true and Gibney is shocked by how Armstrong unabashedly lied to him. When the truth came out, Gibney got in touch with Armstrong again telling him that he owed him an explanation.
The second half of the clip features Armstrong's second interview with Gibney, which was after he had been found out. "I was very confident that I would never be caught," Armstrong tells Gibney in an intimate setting.
The documentary premiered at the Venice Film Festival and was also screened at the Toronto Film Festival last month.
The documentary offers access to Armstrong's former teammates -- specifically Frankie Andreu who was responsible for exposing Armstrong -- doctors, and professionals.
"We set out to make a movie about a comeback--with unlimited and unprecedented access to Armstrong and the inner workings of the Tour de France," producers Frank Marshall and Matt Tolmach said in an interview with Deadline. "Along the way, we ended up chronicling the collapse of one of the greatest myths and legends of our time."
