Taylor Swift opened up about romance in the November 2013 issue of InStyle and admitted that she has yet to meet the love of her life.

The 23-year-old singer talked ex-boyfriends, jealousy and her taste in men in "her most candid interview yet," according to the magazine.

"I think that you can love people without it being the great love," said the I Knew You Were Trouble singer, whose famous exes include Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal, Harry Styles and John Mayer.

Swift's early ideas about romance "came from a daydreamy prince-and-princess place," she added. "But when I actually experienced it, I realized it wasn't those things. It can be, but not always." She credited her musical collaborator and friend Ed Sheeran with changing her perspective on a happy love life.

"He says there are different kinds of love: There's physical attraction, mental attraction, and emotional attraction; there's also comfort and obsession. You need to have all of those things in one person," she explained of the advice Sheeran gave her. "You have to mentally respect them, be physically attracted, and have a comfort level. You're obsessed with them, yet you also know they're going to stay. I've never had that in one person."

The Giver actress, who is currently single, said she does not have the greatest taste in men at times, but she has faith the right guy is nearby.

"My friends tease me about the fact that if someone seems bad or shady or like they have a secret, I find them incredibly interesting. That's just a phase I've been in lately," she told the magazine. "I don't think this should be how I proceed in life. It's important to be self-aware about these things because you don't want to end up with that guy."

Swift also revealed that she can get envious of other people in relationships: "I feel jealousy, but I've been trying to channel it into mutual admiration and inspiration. If someone has a really great boyfriend or career, I think, it's cool that happens. Now I have proof it can happen. Maybe that's out there for me someday. "

The November issue of InStyle hits newsstands on Friday, Oct. 18.
