Although Gwen Stefani first sported blue hair in the '90s, many celebrities have brought the quirky fad back.

Katy Perry, who often dyes her hair, went blue in 2012. Her hair colorist, Rita Hazan, explained the wild color choice to MTV News.

"Of course, being Katy, she is a lot more edgy and she's cooler and she likes to take a lot of risks. And I love that she's like, 'I'm feeling a little blue, let's go blue' - not in her energy, just in her hair color," Hazan said. "I felt like it's the perfect color for her because her eyes are blue and she has the perfect skin tone to be a really vibrant, really cool, intense blue."

More recently, Demi Lovato made the daring change. Her colorist, Amber Maynard, spoke about the color with E! News.

"Demi looked up blue hair on Pinterest and showed me a couple of photos she liked," she said. "We've been planning it ever since she has been going blond. We started taking her lighter at the beginning of the year... She was thinking of going pink or purple, but she kept going back to blue."
