Spider-Man could be facing off against more than just Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

A new photo of a news article from The Daily Bugle, the fictional newspaper set in the Marvel Universe's New York City, teases the possibility of extra villains in the sequel to the 2012 film.

The article, posted on a Daily Bugle Tumblr account run by Sony Pictures, talks about events that occurred after those from The Amazing Spider-Man, mentioning Spencer Smythe, a scientist known for creating the robotic Spider-Slayers, as well as teases the development of utilities that are usually associated with the Vulture.

The article states: "Oscorp spokesman Douglas Menken provided some details from the meeting, including that the construction of the prototype alternative energy power plant, complete with hydroelectric tower, is on schedule for completion within the next year.

"Other highlights included a preview of a flight harness for the military and significant advancements in robotics by the head of the engineering division, Spencer Smythe."

Fans of the comic books remember Smythe was hired to use a robot that would capture Spider-Man but after failing to do so, he turned to a life of crime that involved developing his Spider-Slayer robots to kill Spider-Man. He never succeeded and was eventually poisoned by the radioactive materials used to manufacture his robots.

The Vulture was known for his special harness, which gave him the ability to fly and enhanced his strength, increasing his lifespan. He also later joined Doctor Octopus's Sinister Six.

This is not the first time there have been teasers of more villains joining the film. Released production stills hinted at the Sinister Six appearing in the film.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx. It is scheduled for release on May 2, 2014.
