Jennifer Hudson's Brother In Law William Balfour Found Guilty of Murdering Her Family
Jennifer Hudson's brother-in-law William Balfour has been found guilty of murdering her mother, brother and nephew out of anger and jealousy. The jury convicted Balfour today on three counts of first degree murder. The Chicago Tribune reported that the oscar-winner wept as the verdict was read in court today.
Hudson's extended family members cried as the verdict was read but Balfour was reported to have expressed no emotion.
According to NBC Chicago, Cook County State Attorney Anita Alvarez described the murders as "vicious, cold-blooded, inhumane executions."
Prosecutors had to build the case against Balfour based on testimonies because there were no surviving witnesses to the murder. No evidence was found to prove who murdered three family members of Hudson's family in 2008, but prosecutors said there was overwhelming circumstantial evidence to convict her jealous brother-in-law.
Hudson went to court everyday and was the first witness to be called. "None of us wanted her to marry William," Hudson said of her sister's marriage to the defendant."We did not like how he treated her," the singer testified, according to ABC News.
She cried when graphic photographs were shown to the jury, as she sat with family members in the Chicago courtroom.
Celebrities' site TMZ.com reports that Hudson broke down when prosecutor Veryl Gambino asked her about the last time she saw her family and when he handed her a photo of her mom.
