Katie Holmes Joins Twitter, PHOTO From 'The Giver' Set With Taylor Swift & Jeff Bridges
Katie Holmes joined Twitter and posted her first message on Friday.
"So happy to be on twitter!!!!!!" Holmes tweeted. "Sending first tweets from South Africa!!!!!"
So far, Holmes has followed 10 Twitter users, including makeup artist Bobbi Brown, The New York Times, Vogue and TV producer Albert Bianchini.
Using the Twitter handle @KatieHolmes212, the 34-year-old has already garnered several thousand followers.
Perhaps the actress' use of Twitter is to build momentum for her upcoming film The Giver. Holmes retweeted a photo from Nikki Silver, who's producing the new film. Her co-stars, including Taylor Swift, Jeff Bridges, Odeya Rush and Cameron Monaghan, are also in the picture.
Meryl Streep and True Blood's Alexander Skarsgard, who also star in the film, were missing from the group shot.
Silver welcomed Holmes to the social network and tweeted, "@KatieHolmes212 welcome to SA to @thegivermovie and to Twitter!"
The film is an adaptation of the 1993 novel by Lois Lowry with the same name. It follows the same plot, in which a futuristic society has eliminated pain and strife from the community. One boy named Jonas, however, will be chosen to discover the pain and pleasure of the past world. Jonas is played Brenton Thwaites.
Actors involved in the movie previously tweeted their excitement.
"I'm happy to be working on a movie of one of my favorite books, The Giver Movie," Bridges wrote on Oct. 18.
The movie is expected to come to U.S. theaters in the summer of 2014.
