Kanye West proposed to Kim Kardashian with a beautiful Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring, but the jewel looks similar to the one the rapper gave his ex-girlfriend Alexis Phifer years ago.

West and designer Phifer dated in the early 2000's when the rapper was launching his career. In August 2006, he popped the question and gave Phifer a gigantic, square-cut Lorraine Schwartz ring. However, the couple never made it back down the aisle because they broke off their engagement in 2008.

West has long moved in, recently proposing to Kardashian on Oct. 21 with a 15-carat cushion-cut diamond ring by the same designer. While the couple are both fans of the well-known jeweler, Kardashian was also given a Lorraine Schwartz ring from ex-husband Kris Humphries.

Kanye's ring to Phifer looks very much like the one he recently gave Kardashian, but the new one is smaller and a different color. (See photos here.)

E! News reported that the ring was made in two weeks after Kanye sent over a sketch to the jeweler about how he wanted it to be made.

According to Forevermark Diamond expert Adelaide Polk-Bauman, such a ring would cost West between $7 million to $8 million.

"This is exceptionally rare. Very few places in the world have diamonds such as that," Polk-Bauman said.

Back in 2011 when Humphries proposed to Kardashian, he only paid $750,000, as it retailed at $2 million. The Boston Celtic got his money back for the emerald-cut diamond when it auctioned at Christie's for $749,000.

"Kim's ring is D-flawless," a Lorraine Schwartz rep said. "It's the best color, clarity, and cut there is. There's no comparison!"
