A new trailer for The Wolf of Wall Street shows Leonardo DiCaprio's character buying a dinner worth $26,000 on illegally earned money and taking Jonah Hill under his wing.

The film stars DiCaprio as protagonist Jordan Belfort with a supporting cast that includes Hill and Matthew McConaughey. Belfort was a New York stockbroker who refused to cooperate in a large securities fraud case involving Wall Street, the corporate banking world and mob infiltration. The screenplay for the film was written by Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire).

The trailer reveals that at the "tender age" of 22, Belfort moved to New York, the only place that fit his "high minded ambition." In the beginning of the clip, Belfort's conscience shows up in flashes, wherein his colleague, played by Matthew McConaughey, tells him the trick is to move the money from the clients pocket to yours. DiCaprio intervenes suggesting that it might be more advantegous for everyone if they also made some money for the client in the process. McConaughey laughs at this suggestion.

The trailer then cuts to Belfort starting his own stock firm, Strattford Oakmont, Inc. in an abandoned auto body shop. While guiding his new employees, he tells them that they would be targetting the wealthiest one percent of Americans. What follows is meteoric rise and growth of Belfort's firm into something of a financial empire, and the debauch lifestyle and luxury that comes with that.

In a funny bit, DiCaprio actually gets rebuked by his dad for spending $26,000 on a dinner. In another frame he is also seen throwing money in the trash. The firm also makes $22 billion in three hours.

The trailer wraps with the ultimate kicker. "The real question is this. Was all this legal?" DiCaprio says. "Absolutely not."

Reports of the release of Wall Street being delayed and slated for early 2014 had previously raised concerns about the film not being an Oscar contender. Media outlets previously noted that director Martin Scorsese wanted to push the film's premiere in order to have more time to edit the picture, which runs 3 hours.

Three inside sources suggested that the change in release date to Christmas might allow it to be considered as a late entrant during award season.

Wolf of Wall Street was independently financed by Red Granite with Paramount serving as the film's domestic distributor.

The film is scheduled for release on Christmas day, Dec. 25.
