'X Factor' Judge Demi Lovato Defends Miley Cyrus [VIDEO], 'Get Over' Hannah Montana, 'Heart Attack' Singer Says
Demi Lovato recently visited Katie Couric's talk show where she was asked about her feelings regarding Miley Cyrus. The X Factor judge stuck up for her childhood friend and said she'll "always love her."
"I think she knows what she's doing. A lot of artists take that route of shock value and that's totally fine," she told Couric. "People are talking about her. People are talking about her VMAs performance and now twerking I think is in the dictionary."
The 21-year-old also said that the public should let go of Cyrus' past as the character Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel, which she played from 2006 to 2011. The singer explained that she and her industry friends who grew up in the spotlight are different people now.

"I think that the world needs to kind of get over the fact that she was Hannah Montana when she was 16 or whatever," she said. "Nobody knows her. Nobody really knows who I am. Same with Selena [Gomez] and everybody who's grown up in front of the public eye. We're adults now... I'm nowhere near the same person as I was when I was 15 or 16."
Lovato also joked that her own transition from a childhood star to an adult was a bit easier than Cyrus because of her decision to go to rehab. The Heart Attack singer entered rehab in 2010 when she was 18 years old.
Despite her support, however, Lovato did reveal one downside to Cyrus' actions.
"She has such an incredible voice that's overshadowed by some of the things that she's doing," Lovato said. "But everyone is on their different journeys right now. She's doing that, she's having fun. You know power to her."
Lovato's segment on Couric's show will air on Nov. 19 on ABC.
