Football player Nnamdi Asomugha has been waived from the San Francisco 49ers in replace of Eric Wright, the NFL announced.

The cornerback wasn't performing well this past season, according to ESPN. He had two passes defended and two tackles during the three games he played in. He also hasn't hit the field since Sept. 22.

Asomugha has been playing cornerback for the 49ers since August while Wright recovered from an undisclosed injury. He's been practicing with the team since Oct. 15. He signed a contract good for one year with the team and before that played two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, who ended up cutting him in 2012 after two seasons. He had a five-year contract with the Eagles worth $60 million.

Wright will be taking Asomugha's place effective immediately, according to the NFL. It's not clear if the latter has any prospects for his next home team.

Asomugha's personal life made headlines when he secretly married Scandal actress Kerry Washington in Idaho in July. She spoke out about the nupitals for the first time at the Paley Center for Media on Oct. 2.

"I hate keeping secrets; that is the worst thing for me, because I always want to talk about it. I am really private about my personal life," she said.

The newlyweds are rumored to be expecting their first child. While neither Washington or Asomugha have confirmed the news, her growing baby bump is hard for fans to ignore. A source told Us Weekly, "She's about four months along."

It's not clear if her Scandal character, Olivia Pope, will be pregnant in the show.
