As The Mentalist works to wrap up the six season long Red John arc, many fans are wondering what will become of the series once the elusive serial killer is dealt with.

While the CBS drama has promised that Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) will come face-to-face with his nemesis in episode 8, "Red John." Whether or not the character will be killed or captured remains to be seen. If Red John is captured, there is always a possibility that he could appear later on in there series.

"If and when Red John is caught, there's an interesting life dilemma for Patrick Jane and the rest," said series creator Bruno Heller, according to Entertainment Weekly. "I think it would be very odd if Red John falls dead and the show stops right there. Because the natural question is: What happens next? It's either a big story or smaller story, depending. I mean, I know. But I would be cheating on the narrative if I told you all I had planned."

One possible angle the story could take would involve further investigation of the Tyger, Tyger conspiracy.

"That is a mystery that the team is confronted with, and I think Jane is going to sense clearly that there's the threat of Red John, and then there's this other threat. Is this Red John, or is this an entirely separate other thing? Are they connected? If they are connected, how?" asked Eoghan Mahoney, the writer of "Red Listed," according to TV Guide

Heller recently told TV Guide that the CBI will be going through an institutional crisis. The investigation into Tyger, Tyger and the massive fallout it could create may be what he is referring to.

One fact fans can be sure of is that the "red" will soon be dropped from the drama's episode titles. Episode 9 will be titled "My Blue Heaven" while episode 10 is called "Green Thumb," according to TV Line.
