Queen of Disco Donna Summer died this morning after a long battle with cancer. The 63-year-old singer was in Florida at the time of her death, reports TMZ. The singer had reportedly kept her battle with cancer quiet and had even been working on an album just before her death.


Summer won five Grammy awards and shot to popularity in the late '70s and early '80s with hits "Last Dance," "Bad Girls", and "She Works Hard For The Money." Her music influenced musical legend David Bowie and Duran Duran.

Summer married husband Bruce Charles Sudano in 1980 and have two daughters together, Brooklyn and Amanda. She was previously married to actor Helmuth Sommer in 1973 and have a daughter, Mimi, together. The pair broke up in 1975.


She had reportedly suffered from serious depression after the September 11 World Trade Center attacks, according to DailyMail.
Summer said: "I was really freaked out by the horrific experiences of that day." She was at her Manhattan apartment during the attacks. "I couldn't go out, I didn't want to talk to anybody. I had to keep the blinds down and stay in my bedroom."


However, Summer went to church and recovered. "I went to church, and light came back into my soul. That heaviness was gone."
