Paul Walker Dead At 40: RZA Pens Sad Tribute 'Destiny Bends' For 'Brick Mansions' Costar [AUDIO & LYRICS]
Wu-Tang Clan member RZA penned a melancholic tribute to his friend Paul Walker, who was tragically killed in a car crash over the weekend.
RZA composed the ballad, titled Destiny Bends, with his two sons and singer Will Wells provided the vocals. The song reflects on aspects of Walker's life, including his relationship wit his 15-year-old daughter and the actor's love for driving. It also emphasizes RZA's gratitude to have known Walker.
"Every time I think about you all I see is your smile and your bright blue eyes. Thanks for the time and the smiles you shared with me," Wells sings about Walker.
Tyrese Gibson Mourns The Death Of Paul Walker
RZA, whose real name is Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, met Walker this year on the set of Brick Mansions, in which they costar. It's apparent that the little time they knew each other meant a lot to the music producer.
"I only knew him personally for less than a year, but we knew each other through our work and art. We saw in each other a kindred spirit of men coming from unlikely circumstances, and rising to be the light and beacon of our family and loved ones," RZA wrote on his SoundCloud page.
On Nov. 30, Walker was a passenger in a red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, which burst into flames after crashing into a pole in Santa Clarita, Calif. Both the actor and the driver, Roger Rodas, were killed. Walker was 40 and Rodas was 38.
Destiny Bends Lyrics:
Intro: (RZA)
Yeah, I wanna dedicate this song to my friend Paul Walker. Up in the studio last night, writing for myself. I decided to write a song for you. Peace brother.
Verse 1:
Every time I think about you all I see is your smile and your bright blue eyes. Thanks for the time and the smiles, you shared with me. How you equally respected my art and talked to me. A young father just learning what it takes to be a man. Sharing time with your daughter, you had a plan to drive in the wind, surf on the seas. Realizing the love for a woman who becomes a mother exists in the sea. How can this be? You were set free from your worries now you are gone in the breeze. Gone in the trees. I thought we had another day to smile and laugh in the wind, how can it end? I'm grateful to meet you, may we meet again? Paul, my friend.
Chorus:
On that highway where heaven begins. I lost a friend but destiny bends. I lost a friend on that highway to heaven.
Verse 2:
You will drive in the wind and surf in the seas. Oh how can this be? You were set free from your worries. Now you are gone in the breeze, gone in the trees. Your soul is set free. I thought we had another day to smile and to laugh in the wind, how can it end? I'm thankful to meet you, may we meet again? Paul, my friend. Paul, my friend.
Chorus
