Reporter Slapped by Will Smith Speaks: 'I Had A Splash of Emotion'
An Ukranian reporter who infamously tried to kiss Will Smith on the premiere of "Men In Black 3" in Moscow admitted that he had a "splash of emotion."
On May 18, Smith slapped him in the face after he tried to kiss him in the lips.
"I do apologize for my behavior ... I think it was too much," the reporter, Vitali Sediuk told Hip Hollywood.
"Will Smith is a person who I deeply respect as an actor ... When I met him in Moscow, I wanted to do something to impress him," he said.
"We have a Slavic tradition ...I don't kiss every man or women when I see them in the street ... but that time I decided to do that," he told the site.
The incident was captured on camera and posted on celebrities' site TMZ.com.
Smith spoke about the incident for the first time on the "Late Show with David Letterman" and said it was "awkward."
"I didn't beat up a guy! We're doing an interview and he says, 'I'm your biggest fan, can I have a hug?'.. So I go to give this joker a hug, and he tries to lean in and kiss me. It's just awkward," Smith said.
"They were saying, 'We're sorry, that's just his schtick'... Well.. that's why his ass got schtuck," he continued.
Sediuk said the next time he meets him, he'll just shake his hand.
