'Avengers 2' Trailer: Lou Ferrigno Says Mark Ruffalo's Hulk To Get Solo Film Following 'Age of Ultron' VIDEO
The Hulk could be smashing his way to a stand-alone film in the wake of the Avengers: Age of Ultron.
There are constantly rumors floating around concerning the future of Marvel's giant green monster. Although Bruce Banner's alter ego graced TV screens in the 70s and has since seen two film adaptations, the studio has tiptoed around the idea of giving Mark Ruffalo's much loved iteration a solo feature in the current Marvel Cinematic Universe.
However, Lou Ferrigno, who played the angry hero in TV's The Incredible Hulk, recently revealed that Ruffalo may have a bigger chance of landing his own film than fans were led to believe.
"They are doing a Hulk movie, I think after the next Avengers," Ferrigno said, according to Flicks and the City. "The reason is because the Hulk, in the last Avengers, he saved the day and was the star of the movie so Disney agreed a Hulk movie, so I think it will be done after the Avengers, the second one."
If and when this alleged film comes to pass, The Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon claims the director will be in an unenviable position. The writing would have to walk a fine line between allowing for enough of Bruce Banner's personality to show through while also finding a way of showing the Hulk when Banner would very much like to keep that from happening.
"The Hulk is the most difficult Marvel property because it's always about balance. Is he a monster? Is he a hero? Are you going to root for a protagonist who spends all his time trying to stop the reason you came to the movie from happening?" Whedon said, according to Deadline. "It's always a dance. I don't think the first two movies nailed it, but I don't envy them the task. It was easier to have him in a group than to build everything around him."
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studio's president of production, has bee rather cryptic on the issue, preferring to tease the Hulk's upcoming appearance in Age of Ultron than discuss the distant future.
"All of the effort related to Hulk right know is going to Age of Ultron," Feige told the Reviewer in October. "It's exciting, because [Ruffalo] hasn't been in any other film, so you can expect to have a lot of Bruce Banner and Hulk in Age of Ultron."
