Target Not Selling Beyonce's New Album; Dissing iTunes After 'Digital' Album 'Impacts Sales Projections'?
Target is extra pissed at Beyonce for releasing her mega-hit album exclusively on iTunes, revealing that they will not be carrying her new self-titled record in stores.
Surprising all of her fans, the Grammy winner dropped the biggest bombshell of her career online at midnight on Dec. 13: her self-titled album of 14 songs and 17 music videos. Beyonce has already broken iTunes' record for the most albums sold in a debut week with 828,773 copies in his first three days of availability, but Target is not happy about it.
"At Target we focus on offering our guests a wide assortment of physical CDs, and when a new album is available digitally before it is available physically, it impacts demand and sales projections," Target spokesperson Erica Julkowski told Billboard.
She continued, "While there are many aspects that contribute to our approach and we have appreciated partnering with Beyonce in the past, we are primarily focused on offering CDs that will be available in a physical format at the same time as all other formats. At this time, Target will not be carrying Beyonce's new self-titled album Beyonce."

When Beyonce released 4 in 2011, she worked with Target to give the retailer exclusive editions of the album that came with six additional tracks. She also featured in a TV commercial for Target, where the singer can be heard saying, "I put so much into my new album, and only Target gives you all of it."
Beyonce will hit stores on Friday, Dec. 20.
