Currently on a hiatus after a shocking midseason finale , ABC's Nashville is currently gearing up for the return of its fourth season in 2014.

One of the topics that's undoubtedly on the minds of many fans is the relationship between Megan (Christina Chang) and Deacon (Charles Eston).

Dee Johnson, showrunner of the TV series, recently spoke to TVLine on Dec. 17 about what lies ahead for the relationship between the two characters.

Johnson dished that Megan "has been good" for Maddie's (Lennon Stella) real father, and even added that Deacon "is working really hard to be healthy emotionally."

Although Megan and Deacon may be a good fit for one another, the showrunner stated that the character will always hold a romantic torch for Rayna (Connie Britton) in one way, shape or form.

"We can't ignore the fact that Deacon and Rayna are connected in the deepest possible way. No matter what we do, that's always going to be an undercurrent," Johnson added.

The program will return to the small screen after a surprising ending to its midseason finale, as Teddy (Eric Close) will be concerned about Rayna and the girls after Peggy (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) was shot and Will (Chris Carmack) has not been seen in some time.
