After shocking the world by releasing a surprise album earlier in the month, Beyonce held a Q&A session on Dec. 21 at the SVA Theatre in New York City to answer five questions fans submitted via Instagram.

Donning a mosaic dress and matching boots from Tom Ford's spring 2014 collection, the Drunk in Love singer candidly revealed new details about the unannounced release of her self-titled record on Dec. 12, which has gone on to sell well over a million copies.

Beyonce admitted that she had just gotten off stage when she decided to release the album on Instagram, and how it just felt right to do so at that moment.

"My cousin Angie was like 'Girl you alright?' Because I was talking to myself, because I was terrified, I was so scared and I already envisioned like the worst things that could happen," she said.

She confessed that she actually thought people would hate the album. For a minute she regretted releasing it the way that she did, but the feeling soon went away.

"I was just really nervous because this was a huge risk and when I landed, I saw it actually live on iTunes and you know you're just waiting for the comment and the next morning."

The event crowd then started cheering and clapping.

She also talked about her alter ego Yonce, who made her first appearance on the project. She said that singer/producer The Dream sparked the idea when Beyonce was in the studio with Mirror singer Justin Timberlake.

"I think Yonce is Beyonce. Mrs. Carter is Yonce. Sasha Fierce is Yonce and I'm finally at a place where, as I said earlier, I don't have to kind of separate the two anymore," she said. "We're all one. It's all pieces of me and just different elements of a personality of a woman because we are complicated."

One fan asked her what was the most difficult thing was when it came to keeping her new album a secret for so long.

"Well, it was many things! It was hard and I still every single day, I have gotten on my knees and thanked God that this happened," she said. "...I found a team of underdogs, a team of women, a team of people that no one believed in, and we worked together and stayed up all night and we were progressive and we did not follow the rules."

Beyonce added that she aspires to take after singer Madonna and build her empire without depending on others.

The singer's self-titled effort was released as a 14-track "visual album" that came with videos for every song.
