'Man of Steel 2' Wonder Woman: Producers 'Super Excited' to Have Iconic Character in 'Batman vs. Superman' [VIDEO]
While much of the buzz behind Man of Steel 2 has been about Ben Affleck being cast as Batman, the buzz around the inclusion of Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) is also gaining traction.
Man of Steel 2 producer Wesley Coller recently spoke with MLive about including Wonder Woman in the film, suggesting that they will try to do the character justice.
"(My daughter's) favorite book is this little Wonder Woman flip book. It has the lasso, the invisible plane, the bracelets - every page has an image she's just in awe with," Coller explained. "And something that's become a reality, being a dad with a new daughter, is that I have a special place in my heart for the idea of a strong, empowered female superhero being out there."
Gadot's role as Wonder Woman will be a supporting one for Man of Steel 2, a.k.a. Batman vs. Superman, though an actual Wonder Woman movie is possible for the future.
"We're super excited to have her in the film, it will be a ton of fun, but at the same time, we've got to stay focused on the film we're working on now," Coller said.
Actress Lynda Carter, who portrayed Wonder Woman in the '80s TV series of the same name, gave her blessing to Gadot as the young actress takes over the role.
"I wish [Gadot] well. I'm just glad she's going to be out there again. Maybe she'll get her own show again," Carter said. The actress also noted that it's better than Wonder Woman will be in a supporting role this time around.
"Maybe that's better. She won't have to carry the whole film. It takes the pressure off," she said.
Man of Steel 2 is scheduled for release in theaters on July 17, 2015.
