With the recent death of the Governor (David Morrissey) at the hands of a vengeful Maggie (Lauren Cohan), fans are surely wondering who the next villain in AMC's The Walking Dead will be, as the comics indicate that a vicious antagonist by the name of Negan should burst into the walker-ridden scene at some point in the near future.

Rick & Carl Set To Be 'Out In The World' Alone?

While creator Robert Kirkman has made it crystal clear that he won't always be adhering to the storyline of the comics, he had no qualms about telling Entertainment Weekly on Dec. 18 that the barbed wire wrapped baseball bat-carrying villain will indeed be showing up.

"There was a lot of breathing room in the comics between them. Whether or not we have the same amount of breathing room, or if we do cut that down a little bit and bring him into the show a little early remains to be seen. But I definitely do think there needs to be some kind of space from a Governor into a Negan. You have to have something of a break in there," he said.

Although Kirkman didn't give an exact timetable as to when Negan would gracing the small screen, he did acknowledge that it wouldn't be in season 4.

"I wouldn't expect him to be showing up -- definitely not in Season 4. I don't know. I wouldn't expect it too soon. But we are all very excited about the prospect of bringing that guy into the show. The plan is that we will see him eventually," he added.
