'Guardians of the Galaxy' Movie: James Gunn Hopes Thanos Casting Rumors 'Put to Rest' By Vin Deisel Groot Announcement
The Guardians of the Galaxy finally made an official announcement regarding the casting of Groot, and it turns out that the personified shrubbery will be played by none other than Vin Diesel.
The Fast and Furious 7 star sparked speculation about a superhero role over the summer when he sent out a tweet regarding a meeting with Marvel.
"Marvel meeting today...Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed," the 45-year-old actor tweeted with a photo of an Avengers comic. "P.s. Thanks to Our page, for pushing to make it happen... you know I get tunnel vision with my work... and after that meeting today... wow!"
While fans thought that Diesel would portray either Thanos or Vision based on his posted picture, Guardians director James Gunn said that was purely speculation.
"He was never announced," Gunn said, according to MTV. "He said he wanted to do it and we said we were talking to him. Everything else was people guessing and thinking they knew what was going to happen...I hope this puts to rest all the silly Thanos-Vin stuff which people just seemed to make up out of nothing."
Guardians of the Galaxy, which is set for release on Aug. 1, will also star Lee Pace, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Chris Pratt, and Benicio Del Toro.
