Peter Capaldi has barely entered the TARDIS - his Doctor doesn't even know how to fly the immense ship - and he is already causing controversy.

The Twelfth (or Fourteenth) iteration of the Time Lord is keeping his real-life Scottish accent, a previously announced decision that is now causing a little backlash from some fans due to past Doctor's adaption of an English intonation. David Tennant - the Tenth Doctor and the last dyed-in-the-wool Scot - ditched his hometown voice when he took on the role, despite an alleged preference to do otherwise.

"It was well known that David wanted to use his accent. But he was told it just wouldn't be possible and he had to adopt an English one," a source said, according to Metro. "Now Peter has been able to use his accent some fans think it's a bit of a kick in the teeth. But Peter is best at acting in a Scottish accent and he was delighted when he found out he could play the part with his own voice. It gives his character a stronger identity as well."

Fans will have quite a bit of time to mull over the Capaldi's first few words ("Kidneys! I've got new kidneys. I don't like to color."), however, as his "The Time of the Doctor" Christmas appearance will be his only screen time for quite some time since season 8 may not premiere until September or October, according to Carter Matt.
