For NCIS: Los Angeles, season 6 has been the season of Deeks and Kensi, but that doesn't mean the writers have forgotten about Sam and Callen.

Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi (Daniela Ruah) may be opposite sides of the world, but their story line is still moving along nicely. However, with their partnership now nonexistent in the field, NCIS: LA writers are taking a moment to focus on Sam (LL Cool J) and Callen (Chris O'Donnell).

The partners haven't been entirely missing from the CBS drama this year, but their stories have been featured in short, intense bursts while the Kensi/Deeks plot is on a low simmer - occasionally boiling over and never truly out of sight. Although Callen played out his battle with Janvier (Christopher Lambert) in the season premiere and the 100th episode put a laser focus on his mysterious past, the largest role the duo has recently had was during "Merry Evasion."

Don't worry, however. The entire team will be heading south of the boarder with guest star Danny Trejo during February and Sam, Callen, and Hetty (Linda Hunt) will each play a major role in the upcoming tale.

"It's a big episode that takes everyone down to Mexico, where there's a lot of action as well as character stuff for Callen, Sam and Hetty," said series creator Shane Brennan, according to TV Line.
