'Supernatural' Season 9 Spoilers: Armed With His Grace, Castiel Is 'Back In The Fire' As Fallen Angels Struggle For Power [VIDEO]
No one on Supernatural has had an easy go of it during season 9, least of all Castiel.
Following the Fall, Cas (Misha Collins) found himself without his grace, used and discarded by Metatron (Curtis Armstrong) to live the rest of his life as a human. With a blindingly bright target on his back, the powerless angel was forced to run and hide, dodging angel blades at every turn. However, after a bit of cunning and bloodshed, the Winchester's pal managed to obtain another angel's grace during "Holy Terror," slipping into it as if it were his own.
Although Cas is now technically on equal footing with his kin as they edge closer to all out war, having the power to heal and smite will not solve all of Cas' problems.
"You're going to see that Castiel, now an angel, is going to find himself in this angelic frame more than ever and this might be a little bit of a case of be careful what you wish for," said executive producer Jeremy Carver, according to Entertainment Weekly. "Now that he's an angel again, he's going to have to find his place in this angelic battle, and it may not be the place he imagined for himself, which is going to confront him with some choices he perhaps never thought he'd have to make. So he's right back in the fire, as it were."
On the upside, he now poses less of a liability to Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), which could mean more screen time for Collins and an extra fighter for Team Free Will.
Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on the CW. Click the video below to see a preview of "Road Trip," which is set to air on Jan. 14.
