Fans of How I Met Your Mother eagerly awaiting the show's return on Jan. 13 are now getting their first glimpse of the newest episode, Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra.

"Turn Happy New Year into Slappy New Year!" a voiceover on the clip declared as a scene of Ted (Josh Radnor) celebrating at McLarens turned into one showing Marshall's (Jason Segel) hand posed directly next to a scared Barney's (Neil Patrick Harris) face.

Robin Thicke to Guest Star in 'Slapsgiving 3' Episode?

The clip continues on with a montage of slaps as Barney cries and Marshall explains how he can get over his fear of the slaps.

"Don't think of it as a slap," he said. "Think of It as a high-five...to your stupid face," he said in the clip.

The only real clue as to what fans can expect in the upcoming episode seemingly occurs at the end of the footage, when Marshall and Barney are standing face-to-face.

"I love you," Robin (Cobie Smulders) said to Barney.

"Enough to take this slap for me?" he asked.

"No," she replied and backed away.

According to Carter Matt, the episode will be a silly one that deals with Barney getting the final slap Marshall owes him. However, the show will soon take some dramatic and serious turns.

Episode 15, Unpause, will feature the aftermath of Marshall's decision to take a job as a judge instead of going with Lily (Alyson Hanigan) to Italy. The couple has yet to deal with the issue face-to-face in season 9.

Previous moments between Ted and The Mother this season have seen them returning to The Farhampton Inn to celebrate their one-year anniversary in the second episode, Coming Back, and their engagement in episode eight, The Lighthouse.
