A passenger plane has smashed into a building in Lagos, Nigeria in what immediately appears to have been a tragic accident.

The Dana Air Flight was heading from Lagos to Abuja when it went down, and it is believed everyone onboard, approximately 150 people, were killed.

The plane went down in a neighborhood just outside the airport, reported a federal emergency management official.

Emergency personnel have rushed to the scene and are attending. It is not yet known whether any people were killed on the ground or in the building from the explosion, but officials are expecting the worst.

Eye witnesses from the nearby neighborhood have described seeing the plane crash into a building and bursting into flames.

It is not yet known what caused the crash - the weather in Lagos was reportedly clear and sunny at the time of the incident. Nothing to suggest a terrorist attack has been reported yet.

Nigeria does not have an air safety record to be proud of, despite improvements in recent years since numerous air tragedies occurred in 2005.
