Beyonce has written a new essay about gender equality, explaining that the concept is still a myth.

The singer's essay was published through The Shriver Report, a nonprofit organization led by Maria Shriver. In the essay, Beyonce points out the inequality women still face in the workplace.

"It isn't a reality yet," Beyonce notes, referring to gender equality. "Today, women make up half of the U.S. workforce, but the average working woman earns only 77 percent of what the average working man makes. But unless women and men both say this is unacceptable, things will not change."

The 32-year-old triple threat calls upon men to urge the women in their life to demand equal pay.

"Men have to demand that their wives, daughters, mothers, and sisters earn more-commensurate with their qualifications and not their gender," she writes. "Equality will be achieved when men and women are granted equal pay and equal respect."

She explains that women are actually more than 50 percent of the current population, with more than 50 percent of voters being women as well. Using this statistic for support, she states that women should therefore have 100 percent of opportunities, just as men do.

Beyonce released her fifth studio album in December, with many tracks aimed at women and girls and their role in society. Tracks like Pretty Hurts are aimed at the culture of girls trying to look as attractive as possible while forsaking their intelligence. Other tracks, like ***Flawless, are a call to demand equality with the sexes.
