'Supernatural' Season 9 Spoilers: Sam & Dean 'Not Apart That Long,' But It Will 'Take Something Big' To Reunite Them [VIDEO] [PHOTOS]
Supernatural's Winchester brothers will be striking out on different quests during this week's "First Born," but the rift between the two hunters shouldn't last long.
As Sam (Jared Padalecki) tries to recover physically from his recent angel possession, Dean (Jensen Ackles) will team up with Crowley (Mark Sheppard) to track down the First Blade, a weapon that can kill Abaddon (Alaina Huffman). When the brothers do finally reunite, Padalecki tells TV Line that "it's going to take something big."
"They're handling it as you expect them to," Padalecki said of the characters' current predicament, according to TV Line. "Sam kind of goes introverted and Dean goes forward. Sam is more the kind of guy that thinks something out and says, 'Well, you know, this is where you messed up [and] this is why I'm upset.'... It's nice dichotomy to catch on camera and, hopefully, Jensen [Ackles] and I get a chance to do a good job with it."
Meanwhile, executive producer Jeremy Carver realizes that Sam and Dean's familial bond is the center of the series and is not something that can be lightly be discarded.
"We frankly go where the story takes us and the story is about two brothers who go hunting monsters in their Impala - no one is more aware of that than we are," Carver told Entertainment Weekly. "So in the same way that some folks may have been complaining that Castiel was apart from the boys when he was human, I like to think he's gone on a pretty interesting journey. So to cut right to it, the boys might be apart but they're not apart that long. We're invested in good story but we're also not crazy."
Find out how the boys will fare during their separation when Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on the CW. Click the video to see a preview of "First Born" and head here to see episode stills.
