A new trailer for 300: Rise of An Empire, which was revealed on Jan. 20, features a whole lot of slaying and blood shed as Themistocles wages war on Xerxes.

The clip begins with a pithy statement by Artemesia (Eva Green): "The ecstacy of steel, flesh, sweat and muscle, rage, war." The said words define her creed and also set her in an anatagonistic role.

The video also rewinds to where 300 left things off, showing snippettes of King Leonidas (Gerard Butler), lying dead admidst a sea of bodies, a consequence of his war with Xerxes. In another bit the Queen of Sparta (Lena Headey), Leonidas' widow, is seen speaking with Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton), beseeching him to wage war against Xerxes.

"Have I not given enough for your dream of a united Greece, Themistocles? A king, a husband," the teary-eyed yet aggressive queen tells Themistocles.

The trailer also highlights the backstory of the birth of Xerxes. Artemesia is seen coaxing him into his current role as the "God King" and inciting him to fight Themistocles with the help of her entire naval fleet. In one surrealistic frame, which defines Xerxes' transition, he is seen emerging from a gold bath, all glistening and gilded.

This film seems to take things up by a notch, when compared with 300, when it comes to grandiose visuals and choreographed fight sequences enhanced by the use of CGI.

The film has been directed by Noam Murro and has been produced by Zack Snyder and Kurt Johnstad. Snyder is also slated to direct Warner Bros.' next super hero film, Batman Vs. Superman, which will be released in May 2016.
