While the hit TV series Sherlock is currently in its third season, the latest chatter to come out on the popular program involves its fourth series, as the character of Irene Adler's (Lara Pulver) future is still up in the air.

Molly Hooper Set To Be On A Completely New Journey?

While nothing has yet to be confirmed at this point on Pulver's future, executive producer Steven Moffat made it crystal clear to TVLine on Jan. 21 that Irene would only be back if it were appropriate for the story.

"It's not impossible, because she's still alive and out there ... But I was really, really pleased with [Season 2's Irene-centric] 'A scandal in Belgravia,' and that sense of longing between those two characters," he said.

The E.P. posed a series of questions regarding character returns, which he explains aren't always appropriate for the show.

The question is, can you do it again without making it less good? Are sequels ever as good? Do you really make more money or do you debase the coinage? If we'd do it again. But, in the meantime, we're thrilled with that episode and wary of touching it again. There are many other stories to tell," Moffat continued.
