NCIS: Los Angeles' most affectionate partners are in for a difficult reunion.

For nearly five seasons, Marty Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) and Kensi Blye (Daniela Ruah) danced around their feelings for each other. Although the LAPD liaison and the NCIS agent have decided to move forward with their romantic ambitions following the events of "The Frozen Lake," the duo may have trouble readjusting when Kensi returns from Afghanistan.

A cover for Ruah's real-life pregnancy and maternity leave, Kensi's White Ghost arc proved to be inevitable to keep Ruah in the picture.

"[The reassignment] came at the very, very worst possible time for her and Deeks," said series creator Shane Brennan, according to TV Line. "But it's been a lot of fun, and we've really enjoyed doing it."

When Kensi returns around episode 18, an unexpected revelation will lead Kensi to question the foundation and status of her relationship with Deeks. Being back near her partner "doesn't work out the way she thinks it's going to work out," Brennan explained to TV Line.

After a short break, NCIS: LA will return on Feb. 4 with "War Crimes." Click here to see new episode stills and tune in to CBS Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET to find out whether or not Densi can survive.
