‘Coronation Street’ Spoilers: Roy Skips Hayley’s Funeral & Sophie And Maddie Kiss? [PHOTOS]
It's a tough day in Weatherfield as everyone gathers for Hayley's funeral on Coronation Street.
Coronation Street: Monday, Jan. 27, 2014
The day has come for everyone to say their official goodbyes to Hayley (Julie Hesmondhalgh), and there's hardly a dry eye as the hearse carrying her coffin arrives at Roy's (David Neilson) café. Sean (Antony Cotton) will provide Julie (Katy Cavanagh) with extra tissues, and everyone going to the funeral will respect Hayley's wishes and dress in festive colors. Norris (Malcom Hebden) will sport a colorful bowtie he wore while ballroom dancing with Hayley, while Mary (Patti Clare) will opt for a Spanish flamenco dress.
Watch the scene here.
However, the day will be hardest of all on Roy, who handles the sympathy he receives from everyone badly and escapes. When Fiz (Jenny McAlpine) and Carla (Allison King) notice his absence they try to find him at the café, they see a note he left for them. It's unclear where Roy has run off to.
Jenny McAlpine sat down with Radio Times to talk about filming the incredibly emotional scenes, as well as Roy's emotional state.
"At that point, Roy's emotions are really complex. The whole funeral is about Roy pretending that Hayley was all these nice things, when inside Roy is angry with Hayley," she said. "He's a very honest and straightforward man and he doesn't think it's just or fair to let everyone grieve for Hayley and not tell about what she's done."
Meanwhile, tensions will rise between Sophie (Brooke Vincent) and Maddie (Amy Kelly) when Sophie finds Maddie with a bruised face and demands to know what happened. After a fight, Sophie will be left stunned when Maddie plants a kiss on her.
