Russell Wilson Wife Ashton Meem: Meet The Seattle Seahawks Quarterback's Spouse Before The Super Bowl [PHOTOS] [VIDEO]
One specific player in Sunday's Super Bowl has a supportive wife standing behind him, whether or not his team wins or loses the game.
Russell Wilson, the 25-year-old Seattle Seahawks quarterback, will have his proud wife Ashton Meem's love and support from the stands as his team takes on Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
The two are high school sweethearts, who briefly carried on a long-distance relationship when they chose to go to colleges in different states. Meem eventually transferred to North Carolina State University to be with Wilson, and after she graduated, Wilson transferred to Wisconsin to raise his draft potential.
After college, Meem began a career in insurance in North Carolina, but since relocating to Seattle, she became an event planner.
Before their lives took them to either Wisconsin or Seattle, however, Russell proposed to Meem at the Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, N.C. on Aug. 1, 2010.
Meem recalled how the proposal happened during an interview with The Richmond Times-Dispatch just weeks before her husband was drafted to the NFL in 2012.
Wilson had spread white rose petals throughout the hotel's Presidential Suite along with Meem's favorite champagne and chocolate covered strawberries on the table. Wilson even involved the couple's Pocket Beagle, Penny.
"Still it didn't click," Meem said at the time. "I read her dog tag, 'Hey Mom, Dad has a question he wants to ask you.'"
Meem then turned to find Wilson down on one knee, and the couple married as the Country Club of Virginia on Jan. 14, 2012.

The new Mrs. Wilson made headlines when her husband was first drafted to the NFL later that year. Wilson expressed excitement when her husband received the call that he was being drafted by the Seahawks as a third-round pick (75th overall). She was caught on camera screaming with joy and had a huge smile on her face.
