The paranormal seems to have a hold on the Windy City in Supernatural: Tribes, and one would-be cop is going to have his life turned upside down when he realizes.

Following the monster-related death of a loved one, Ennis Roth will have his eyes opened by the Winchester brothers in the series' backdoor pilot. Set to air as episode 20 of Supernatural's season 9, TV Line states that the pilot will introduce Roth as well as several monsters.

Billed as a 20-something, possibly African-American, "likeable, strong-willed [and] resolute" male, Ennis will learn from Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) that five supernatural families are controlling Chicago, reports TV Line.

Tribes will give viewers a glimpse behind the curtain of two of these families right off the bat - the shapeshifter Haydens (who have recently suffered a major tragedy) and the werewolf Durants. Each family has at least one son and daughter, according to Zap2It. Representing the Haydens are David and Margo while Violet and Julian come from the Durants.

Penned by Supernatural writer and producer Andrew Dabb ("Road Trip," "Devil May Care"), the spinoff will dive into a area that its parent series only dips its toes into occasionally - the lives of monsters when they aren't being killed by the Winchester boys.

"It's going to be quite a departure - the same world but from a whole new perspective," said executive producer Jeremy Carver, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Supernatural airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. Click the video below to see a preview of the next episode, "Captives."
