Lupita Nyong'o Wins Best Supporting Actress
The film beat out American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Dallas Buyers Club, Gravity, Her, Nebraska, Philomena and The Wolf of Wall Street.
12 Years a Slave was nominated for eight other Academy Awards, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role (Michael Fassbender), Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Lupita Nyong'o), Best Achievemen in Costume Design, Best Achievement in Directing, Best Achievement in Film Editing, Best Achievement in Production Design and Best Writing- Adapted Screenplay.

The film also won a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture- Drama. It was nominated for six other Golden Globes, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture- Drama (Chiwetel Ejiofor), Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture (Michael Fassbender), Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture (Lupita Nyong'o), Best Director- Motion Picture, Best Screenplay- Motion Picture and Best Original Score- Motion Picture.
The film also won two BAFTA Film Awards for Best Film and Best Leading Actor (Chiwetel Ejiofor). It was nominated for several other BAFTA Film Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor (Michael Fassbender) and Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong'o).
The film is added to the list of winners for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Previous winners starting from last year include Argo, The Artist and more.
