Kensi has been gone from the main NCIS: Los Angeles team for far too long, and her absence has made Sam and Callen into the annoying older brothers Deeks never wanted.

The Box Returns To 'NCIS: LA' In 'Three Hearts,' Will Deeks Open It?

Callen (Chris O'Donnell) and Sam (LL Cool J) have a time-tested and battle-worn partnership that easily operates without words. Unfortunately for Deeks, the duo will realize during "Between the Lines" that he defiantly doesn't share their bond - at least not with them (see video below).

When a mole compromises the identities of several undercover agents, however, Sam may attempt to use one of his old aliases while Callen and Deeks team up.

"Fun #NCISLA ep first three days shooting. Sam rolls the dice and Callen rolls with Deeks," teased director Dennis Smith.

While Hetty (Linda Hunt) tries to keep operations under control in California, Granger (Miguel Ferrer) is busy worrying about a disappearing Kensi (Daniela Ruah) in Afghanistan. Kensi got a blast from her past when she recognized the White Ghost as her former fiancée Jack Simon (Matthew Del Negro), and it appears her missed chat with Deeks at the end of "Fish Out Of Water" will be the first sign that the agent has gone off the grid.

NCIS: LA airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
